The Intergenerational Leadership Institute - Nelson, B.C. (Canada) Chapter was launched on January 12, 2018 with 15 participants.

Theresa Southam and Pat Gibson are the two ILI chapter co-coordinators. Theresa runs the Teaching and Learning Centre at Selkirk College (based in Castlegar, British Columbia) and is a Ph.D. student at Fielding University in the focus area of Creativity and Aging. Pat is a Board Member of Selkirk College's Learning in Retirement program which has over 300 members.

The 16-hour ILI course is being delivered via Selkirk College's learning management system, Moodle.

The intergenerational project ideas that this first cohort of ILI participants have begun to develop include:
- a climate change action group
- an exchange between grandparents and youth with Japan
- a technology literacy project
- connections between older adults and international students
