How can you measure loneliness

Measuring Social Engagement in Your Community: Understanding levels of social engagement is critical to organizations that are working to combat social isolation among older adults in their communities. Many of the tools that are used to measure levels of social engagement among older adults are based on the UCLA Loneliness Scale. Developed by the University of California, Los Angeles and first published in 1978, this scale consists of a series of 20 questions that assess the degree of loneliness or engagement among older adults. In addition to the UCLA Loneliness Scale, many shorter surveys can be used to conduct individual assessments in person, over the phone or independently.
