Children’s Books on Grandparent-Grandchildren Relationships

Posted: August 30, 2013

Flashlight Press, an independent publisher of award-winning picture books, has recently published several books on the grandparent-grandchild relationship. These books tackle issues of aging, memory, and the intergenerational bond.

Silly Frilly Grandma Tillie (written by Laurie Jacobs, illustrated by Anne Jewett) celebrates the deep intergenerational connections between grandparents and grandchildren with bright illustrations, wacky antics, and a whole lot of heart. Grandma Tillie knows just how to royally entertain her grandchildren. To Sophie's and Chloe's delight, whenever Grandma Tillie babysits, she seems to disappear, only to be replaced by a parade of lovable characters. Click here for a full pdf file of the book.

Other grandparenting books include: Getting to Know Ruben Plotnick, a heartwarming story that views Alzheimer's from a child's perspective; Grandfather's Wrinkles, a beautifully illustrated exchange between Grandfather and granddaughter Lucy about the origin of wrinkles; and Grandpa for Sale, a funny little story about a girl who receives an offer to buy her Grandpa, and her discovery that there are just some things money can't buy.
