Diabetes Awareness and Management for Young Children

The number of young children diagnosed with diabetes is increasing and is frequently identified by high blood sugar levels (hyperglycemia) or a life-threatening condition known as diabetic ketoacidosis (DKA). Signs and symptoms of DKA can be misattributed to the flu or other common childhood viruses making awareness vital. Proper care and management of type 1 diabetes (T1D) is critical for healthy growth and development and prevention of complications later in life. This module informs caregivers of young children about the signs and symptoms and the essentials of caring for a young child with T1D. (K7.5 C1) 2 hours
