Common questions about Continuing Education Units and steps for receiving CEUs for completing BKC On Demand online courses.
Continuing Education Units (CEUs)
How many CEUs are awarded for BKC On Demand courses?
To receive one (1) CEU, ten (10) hours of BKC courses must be completed. Any combination of Better Kid Care online courses can combine to earn CEUs.
How to request a CEU certificate
If you are requesting CEUs for CDA Renewal, read this information first. NOTE: You will NOT use the CEU request form linked below.
If you have completed at least 10 hours of BKC courses and would like to receive a certification for one CEU, complete the CEU REQUEST FORM.
Upon receipt of a CEU request form, staff at Better Kid Care will verify that a reasonable amount of time was spent completing each course. It is expected that videos are viewed in full, reflection responses indicate your understanding and application of course content, handouts are opened and reviewed, and assessments are completed. BKC reserves the right not to report CEUs that do not meet these criteria.
Maximum number of CEUs/day
If you are completing online courses to earn Continuing Education Units, Better Kid Care will award a maximum of 12 hours of professional development per calendar day. The date that the course is completed is printed on the Certificate of Completion. Our online courses are designed for participants to receive the designated number of professional development hours by reading all course content, viewing video clips, completing reflection activities, and reviewing handouts. It takes time and reflection to learn. Research shows that professionals who continue learning offer higher quality care to children.
How is the CEU used?
While the primary use of CEU records is for professional or occupational records, individuals also may wish to document their accomplishments in areas of technical or personal development. Individual CEU records also may be used to document completion of requirements for a major phase of training or education and, thus, indicate readiness to enter into the next phase of training or career enhancement.
How do CEUs relate to college credit?
There is no relationship between CEU and academic credit. By definition, the CEU relates only to non-credit continuing education experiences. Academic credit applies specifically to degree requirements and CEUs are not awarded for that purpose.
