The Out-of-School Nutrition and Physical Activity (OSNAP) initiative, developed by researchers at the Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health, is an evidence-based program to support after school and other out-of-school-time programs to offer healthy foods and beverages, and opportunities for children to be more active. This module presents the OSNAP model to assess a program's physical activity and nutrition environment, identify areas for improvement, build communication for healthy messaging, set goals for change, re-evaluate environments, and celebrate successes.

  • Identify OSNAP goals for healthy after school programs.
  • Assess current program practices related to healthy foods and beverages, physical activity opportunities, and screen time.
  • Examine low-cost policy and practice strategies to support the goal areas.
  • Plan ways to implement policies and practices to meet the OSNAP goals.
