Observation and assessment focused on equity is integral to understanding and supporting children's developmental progress and informing decisions about effective teaching practices. This course explores multidimensional observation and assessment processes that are anti-biased, culturally responsive, linguistically and ability diverse, and that value collaborative systems of support. Objectives
- Explain characteristics of a research-informed observation and assessment cycle that support ways to conduct equitable observation processes and to inform teaching decisions that promote positive outcomes for each child.
- Evaluate current observation and assessment practices to determine if they are biased, cause harm, or lack cultural responsiveness and determine needed adaptations that promote strength-based, equitable observation and assessment.
- Develop an action plan to improve equitable observation and assessment practices based on cultural knowledge; the strengths, competencies, and the capacities of children; and family, peer, and community partnerships.
