Objectives

  • Reflect and gather insights on one's own individual identity (culture, language, ability, values, beliefs, and bias) to understand others better.
  • Define and contemplate terminologies and approaches associated with cultural diversity and responsive teaching practices.
  • Identify and contemplate bias and explore anti-bias approaches that support working with children and families.
  • Identify approaches and practices that increase cultural responsiveness and positive relationships with children and families.
  • Gather strategies to foster healthy relationships with children that include culturally appropriate behavioral guidance and support for social-emotional learning (SEL) and whole child development.
  • Examine and assess one's own cultural, linguistic, and ability diversity (CLAD) awareness to improve ongoing practices, determine strengths, and plan for improvements.
  • Create an intentional action plan that includes goals and methods to improve culturally responsive practices and understanding.
