Read a story to the children about insects. Have an insect hunt when the children are outdoors so they can study some insects up close. Give them some magnifying glasses to help them study the insects. During creative art time have the children create their own insects using colored play dough or clay. Remind them that insects have six legs.

What they need:
Play dough or clay
Pipe cleaners
Toothpicks

What to do:
The children can create an insect using any colors they want. Their insect may be one color or lots of colors. Use the toothpicks to join body parts and pipe cleaners to form legs. Let the insects dry and place them around the room to remind them of the outdoors!

CAUTION:
Young children can choke on small objects and toy parts. All items used for children under three years of age and any children who put toys in their mouths should be at least 1¼ inch in diameter and between 1 inch and 2¼ inches in length.
