Make a game out of teaching the children about big and small. This will also teach them about growing.
What you need:
- Collect some old clothes in all different sizes. Ask parents to help with this. Ask them to wash the articles of clothing before using them.
- Two or three plastic laundry baskets to put the clothes in.
What to do:
- Have each child try on some of the clothes.
- The children can ask each other, "Do the clothes fit?" "Are they too big?" "Are they too small?"
- If a piece of clothing does not fit, ask the children if it is too big or too small.
- Find out if the children know why. This is a good chance to talk about human growth.
- Talk about the fact that even when each child grows, they are still the same person. Remind them about when they were babies and what they looked like and compare it to now. Talk about parents and how they were babies once, too. What do they look like now?
To extend this activity, have the children bring in photos of when they were younger. Bring in some photos of yourself at different stages of your life.
