AEE/INTAG 499 Indigenous Knowledge and Agricultural Education - Spring Break 2018

Spring 2018, Monday 4:00 - 7:00 PM

Travel to Belize: March 3 - 10, 2018

Learn more about the role of indigenous knowledge in agricultural education in the multi-cultural context offered by the country of Belize. Regular class sessions will meet on Monday evenings during the spring 2018 semester, with travel to Belize March 3rd - 10th. Consider the role of agricultural education by visiting examples of both formal and non-formal agricultural education and discover 4-H Belize! Try something new by sleeping in a traditional Mayan hut and trying food prepared by local people. Think about agriculture in new ways by touring small and large scale agriculture operations and learning about traditional agriculture practices and their role in modern life.

Note that this experience fulfills the study abroad requirement of the International Agriculture (INTAG) minor.

Estimated cost: $2,500 which includes plane ticket, all group activities and most meals

Pre-departure Orientation: Spring 2018

Travel to Malaysia: July 6 - August 3, 2018

This program is a partnership between Universiti Teknologi Malaysia, Penn State University and Hawkeye Community College, and is funded by a U.S. Department of Education Fulbright-Hays Group Projects Abroad grant. The purpose of this course is to develop and prepare globally minded agricultural education teachers by providing the opportunity for a short-term study experience within the context of agricultural education and university agricultural teacher preparation programs.

This experience is open to current agricultural educators in Pennsylvania and Iowa, as well as pre-service candidates from Penn State University and Hawkeye Community College.

Estimated cost: $3,150 which includes plane ticket, all group activities and most meals

Korea test#AgEd2Korea 2014

This program is partnership between Penn State and the University of Florida and funded by a U.S. Department of Education Fulbright-Hays Group Projects Abroad grant. The purpose of this course was to develop and prepare globally minded agricultural education teachers by providing the opportunity a short-term study experience within the context of agricultural education in nation's that have school-based agricultural education and university agricultural teacher preparation programs.

#AgEd2Korea included global teaching opportunities with Seoul National University, Suncheon National University and Gwang-ju National University of Education, Suwon High School for Agricultural Sciences. and meeting with the FFK This embedded program gave students and teachers tremendous opportunities for professional growth and cultural immersion, an understanding of English Language Learner challenges and the breadth of the global agriculture world. The team attended various agricultural tours including rice and tea production, The Korean Horseman High School, Suncheon Bay Gardens and the Ecorium.
