Research Interests

My research program focuses on two substantive areas. First, I examine the relationship between climate change, demographic and health outcomes, and economic development, primarily in low- and middle-income countries. I currently have two NIH-funded projects in this area: The first measures the compounding effects of armed conflict and climate shocks on maternal and child health in sub-Saharan Africa. The second project measures and compares the effects of weather shocks during childhood through early adulthood on health outcomes in mid-adulthood. This project uses panel data from Indonesia and Mexico. My second area of research focuses on poverty and inequality in the United States. Current projects examine income inequality in the rural United States and the relationship between natural resource development and economic outcomes.
