Juliet Lana Mejias, a Community, Environment, and Development Major (CED)/(INTED) student was selected to receive a $1,000 award from our College of Agricultural Sciences Alumni Society in recognition of her internship experience.
She was one of the 48 entries for this competitive award, which was judged by four impartial College representatives.
Her internship was title the Community Engagement Internship and it was with Penn State Extension (Philadelphia Center). Extension partnered her with an urban farm in the city of Philadelphia where she provided her work and support to the non-profit organization, Norris Square Neighborhood Project. At NSNP, she was able to reconnect to her roots by speaking Spanish with the community and growing crops native to Puerto Rico.
"It was an amazing experience that taught me so much about my love for agriculture and how to engage the community around it. I'm so grateful for the award!"
