Danielle Breese, AEE/CERT candidate was accepted into the 2011 Summer TESL (Teaching English as a Second Language) Certificate Program offered through Penn State Outreach.

This program provides an opportunity for current pre-service education majors and in-service teachers to learn about English as a Second Language strategies that are implemented in classrooms. The program takes place during the spring and summer semesters.

During spring semester participants enroll in an online course, which requires four weekend commitments to prepare them for studying and working in Ecuador, as well as a chance to get to know fellow students participating in the program.

During summer 2011 students will travel to Ecuador for a 4.5 week program. The first four days are spent in Quito for orientation, the remaining four weeks are spent in Otavalo at La Universidad de Otavalo . Once in Ecuador the participants are paired with a mentor where they gain first hand experience teaching English language learners, study Spanish or Quichua (the native language), live with a host Ecuadorian family, and explore the country.
