Dr. Sabine O'Hara, Northeast Center Board Member and Dean of the University of the District of Columbia College of Agriculture, Urban Sustainability and Environmental Sciences (CAUSES), describes the role that urban food hubs can play in urban communities in an article recently published in Solutions Journal.

"Food Security: The Urban Food Hubs Solution" describes the Urban Food Hub concept developed at CAUSES, which tests the feasibility of small-scale urban food systems that include four key components:

  1. food production
  2. food preparation
  3. food distribution
  4. waste reduction/recycling

In the article, O'Hara maintains that this concept improves food security, job creation, and urban sustainability. Visit Solutions to read the full article.
