Transatlantic Land Use Conference
Washington, DC; September 24-26, 2007. Co-sponsored by NERCRD with LEI, NASULGC, and others. Held to explore the causes and consequences of current land use trends and dynamics related to society, economy and environment; to identify the major drivers of land use; and to address the question of what will happen if we keep doing what we are doing now. The conference also sought to identify alternative measures that could be used to strengthen the sustainable use of natural resources in rural and suburban areas. -
Northeast Extension Land Use Strategic Planning Retreat (NEELUN)
Philadelphia, PA; October, 2006. Held for researchers and extension faculty and educators to meet and develop a three year plan for multi-state land use research and extension programming. Selected attendees continue to network via listservs and conference calls.

Land Use Research and Outreach Consortium (LUROC) formed
The Northeast Regional Center for Rural Development created LUROC to establish a focal point for scientists and educators whose work addressed the increasingly complex emerging land use issues in the Northeast region. Download the LUROC brochure here (PDF).

Regional Workshop on Extension Land Use Programming (no. 2)
State College, PA; May, 2004. Organized to follow up on the 2003 Regional Workshop, which was designed to identify programmatic gaps and opportunities for cross-state collaboration in the area of land use. This meeting resulted in the creation of NEELUN, the Northeast Extension Land Use Network, which was approved by the Northeast Extension Directors (NEED) association at the 2004 Summer Meeting.

Orlando, FL; February, 2002. NERCRD hosted this workshop and presented two papers. Resulted in the publication of one edited book (Routledge 2005). -
Northeast Agricultural and Resource Economics Association (NAREA) Land Use Policy Workshop
Camp Hill, PA; June, 2002. NERCRD presented a selected paper on environmental quality and migration. Resulted in a special issue of the Agricultural and Resource Economics Review (April 2003). The conference proceedings are summarized in this publication. -
