Extension and Outreach

The Agricultural Economics, Sociology, and Education (AESE) Department’s Extension programs are closely linked with the Department’s research programs and the activities of multi-unit Centers. The Extension programs offered are diverse and address topics such as farm and food business profitability, farm safety, youth and family development, consumer choices about food and health, and water and energy policy.

Economic, Community Development and Sustainability

Educational programs are focused on policies and institutions for managing the water-related impacts resulting from development of non- renewable energy sources, such as the Marcellus shale; and evaluating market-like approaches for improving water quality and water use.

RULE (Rural-Urban Leadership Program) encourages and fosters the development of adult community leaders from all segments of Pennsylvania. RULE explores public issue engagement, interorganizational networking, effective public decision making, strategic design, and sustainable relationships.

The mission of AgrAbility for Pennsylvanians is to assist farmers, ranchers and other agricultural workers with disabilities or long-term health conditions by providing the resources and support they need to live independently and continue in production agriculture.
