Research Interests

My research agenda focuses on rural development and economic growth in general, with interest in the role of markets for land, credit and labor.  Current research activities include the role of entrepreneurship and social networks in income-generation, and factors that affect the dissemination and adoption of improved agricultural practices in the Rift Valley of Kenya.

Outreach/Extension Interests

While I do not have a formal extension appointment, I value engagement with the public and application of my academic work.  I seek to partner with various non-governmental and governmental organizations that are interested in applied research to inform programs and policies.  Currently I am part of a collaborative effort in research, service learning and outreach with a program for street-dwelling children in Kenya.
