Position Summary:

Reporting to the QA Manager, The QA Supervisor will directly supervise hourly QA technicians and ensure absolute adherence to food safety and quality standards. Provide leadership, training, direction and oversight of QA programs to all personnel. Review and recommend implementation and alterations to food safety and quality programs for continual improvement. Interact with Service Center Management team on all foods safety and quality issues.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Demonstrate and communicate Vantage Culture.
  • Directly supervises QA staff, provides leadership, direction and oversight of all QA staff; including effectively dealing with employee discipline, performance management and training.
  • Ensures the highest level of food safety and quality throughout the plant.
  • Ensures implementation of existing food safety and quality programs. Develops new programs as needed.
  • Conducts regular audits to assure compliance with regulatory (USDA) and customer (product specifications).
  • Instills a zero defect tolerance and continuous improvement attitude throughout the department and an absolute commitment to excellence and customer satisfaction.
  • Interacts with customer representatives and demonstrate the highest level of professionalism and customer service.
  • Troubleshoots and assists in resolution of customer complaints.
  • Trains company employees in food safety and quality requirements.
  • Establishes perpetual education philosophy and practices throughout the Company as it relates to Food Safety and Quality systems.
  • Protects the Company’s success by ensuring customer protection, satisfaction, defect free work and operational efficiencies.
  • Leads the implementation and maintenance of GFSI certification.
  • Maximizes the use of assigned resources while meeting food safety and quality objectives.
  • Reviews and maintains Quality Assurance documentation.
  • Acts as a liaison to USDA inspector personnel.
  • Will manage Quality Assurance staff including QA Group Leaders, QA Technicians and Product Auditors.

  • Experience establishing organization-wide standards and best practices including developing policies, procedures, and workflows.
  • Supervisory experience. Skills include strategic planning, influencing others, and supporting organizational change.
  • Track record of maintaining high-quality standards for the organization. Understands key process issues and ensures process improvements happen.
  • Experience implementing world-class quality concepts into an organization using continuous improvement techniques.
  • Competently analyzes and prioritizes information to make appropriate recommendations. 
  • Ability to perform mathematical calculations in all units of measure 
  • Ability to expand job responsibilities, suggests improvements, and collaborates with others to generate ideas and improve processes.
  • Experience working with relational databases, statistical programs, and other tools to compile and interpret quantitative data.
  • Helps design and construct features for new products.
  • Expert knowledge of SSOPs, HACCP and USDA.
  • Knowledge of microbiological testing.
  • Strong organizational and communication skills
  • Advanced user of MS Office software.

Qualifications/Education/Training:

  • Bachelor's Degree in relevant science discipline: Animal/Food Science, Biology/Microbiology, Chemistry/Biochemistry
  • 2-4 years of experience in the Quality Assurance field. Supervisory experience a plus.

Environment:

The hours and days of work are established as needed by operations and at the discretion of management and may be adjusted (increased or decreased) by management as required.  Must be able to work flexible schedule as necessary. Will spend some time in processing environment. Protective equipment is provided. Exposure includes:  

  • Very cold temperatures, below freezing
  • High noise levels.
  • Work in close proximity to industrial equipment, saws, conveyors, forklifts, and mechanized equipment.
  • Wet and slippery floors
  • Variety of odors
