Dr Pepper Snapple Group: Apple Buyer at Williamson, NY plant

Reporting to the Manager of Field Operations, this role will be responsible for the field purchases, blending, storage and movement of apples for the production of apple related products for the DPSG Williamson, NY plant.

 

Accountabilities:

·         Procurement

o   Procure peeler grade, TR juice, and juice apples to support production requirements

o   Conduct market and competitive analysis and implement strategies and tactics which mitigate risk and position DPSG brands to win

o   Provide input for the development of apple contracts and pricing

o   Input contracts in system and maintain master data settings as necessary

o   Negotiate and secure storage and freight

o   Assist with the apple budget process

o   Provide apple market and crop updates to management team

o   Work with Packing Sheds throughout the season to procure culls as needed to support the business

o   Secure organic supply for DPSG Organic Programs – understand the organic market, growing practices, and certifications needed 

·         Grower Programs:

o   Maintain positive grower relations (130+ growers)

o   Effectively communicate with growers via meetings, farm visits, email communications

o   Attend and participate in industry meetings

o   Conduct annual crop estimates and farm visits with all growers prior to harvest

o   Determine and understand costs of production for growers

o   Seek ways to improve grower’s yields and lower their costs

o   Conduct self in a professional and ethical manner

o   Assist with Cornell Research Partnership

·         Receiving

o   Collaborate with yard and receiving teams to ensure a smooth and efficient operation on a year round basis

o   Control the allocation of Mott’s boxes during harvest

o   Interview, hire and train inspection and tagging crews for harvest

o   Manage and ensure control of Pesticide Management Program

o   Manage relationship with 3rd Party Inspection site – CW Storage

o   Ensure truck scales are operational and certified on an annual basis

 

·         Planning

o   Provide daily apple order to storage operators

o   Develop a storage and blend plan by variety to support year round apple production while maintaining Mott’s high quality standards and reducing costs

o   Monitor apples to ensure effective use and eliminate waste

o   Complete daily/ weekly quality tests on apples

o   Determine apple position on a monthly basis

  • Plan bulk juice truck deliveries and work with plant on AJC/NSAJ production schedules

 

·         Customer Service

o   Work closely with manufacturing to support their production requirements and goals

o   Assist Quality team with Food Safety Programs as it relates to apples

o   Collaboratively seek opportunities for efficiency gains, cost savings and product improvement

o   Support capital project plans as necessary

Success in this role will be measured by achievements attained versus annual objectives

·         Maintain positive grower relations

·         Deliver quality apples on time, support year round production

·         Deliver accurate forecasts, budgets and reports

·         Provide support to stakeholders

·         Lower costs and improve operational efficiencies

 

 

Qualifications:

·    Bachelor’s degree

·    3+ years procurement/horticulture and/or grower relations experience in the food industry
