Dr. Wayne Schutjer, former AERS department head, dies suddenly

Dr. Schutjer was born in Brookings, South Dakota, on September 18, 1936. He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Mable, three children, and seven grandchildren. He received his BS and MS degrees from South Dakota State University, and his PhD degree from Michigan State University. He joined the faculty at Penn State in 1964 to teach and conduct research in International Agricultural Development. Dr. Schutjer was named Associate Dean and Associate Director of Cooperative Extension in the College of Agricultural Sciences at Penn State in January 1987, and remained in that position until 1995, when he returned to the department. A celebration will be held in his honor in Boca Raton.
