Center's Board of Directors, Technical Advisory Committee discussed accomplishments and future plans at annual meeting in October

Posted: October 26, 2015

Members of the Northeast Center's Board of Directors (BOD) and Technical Advisory Committee (TAC) met in Washington, DC on October 22-23 to discuss the Center's progress towards its goals and to provide input to its 2016 plan of work.

The meeting began with a TAC-only session, in which members reflected on two major initiatives of the year: the small-grants program designed to encourage interstate-collaboration among Extension staff, and the formation of a Learning Circle to examine best practices for measuring impacts of community, regional, and economic development programs in the region. A joint session of the BOD and TAC followed, which gave BOD members the opportunity to provide feedback on these initiatives. Center staff also provided BOD and TAC members an update on external grants, communication efforts, and budgets.

The meeting was hosted by Board Member Sabine O'Hara, Dean and Director of Land-Grant Programs for the College of Agriculture, Urban Sustainability and Environmental Sciences (CAUSES) of the University of the District of Columbia (UDC). We are tremendously appreciative of Timothy Phipps (WVU) and Charlie French (UNH), whose terms as Board Chair and TAC chair, respectively, expire this year. We also very much appreciate the willingness of Steve Bonanno (WVU, incoming BOD Chair) and Paul Gottlieb (Rutgers, incoming TAC Chair) to fill their shoes, and of James McConnon (UMaine) who will be the TAC Chair next year. We feel very fortunate for the ongoing support and guidance that all the members of our Board and TAC provide, and look forward to collaborating with our BOD and TAC in the year ahead.

The annual BOD/TAC meeting is held in a different Northeast location each year.
