Strengthening Decision Capacity for Agent-level Adaptation to Extreme Events

This project seeks graduate students and post-docs interested in building an integrated capacity to support agent level decision making

Climate change has led to change in the timing and sequences of weather events while also increasing the frequency of extreme events.  This research focuses on improving capacity to 1) predict the price and quantity supply impacts of weather events given uncertainty and asymmetry in agent information as well as high search and penalty costs and 2) support agent production planning and implementation as information conditions change using scenario based strategy development drawn from predicted weather and market condition scenarios.  This economic component is joined by biophysical system components being developed by multi-disciplinary team of agronomists, entomologists, and hydrologists. These efforts will create an integrated capacity to support agent level decisions as well as to gauge their locally spatial environmental implications for water and soil resources.   This project engages and seeks graduate students and post-docs to be trained in supporting economic theory, methods, and computational economic approaches.

In addition to meeting the admission requirements, successful applicants should have (1) a bachelor’s or master’s degree in a relevant field of study; (2) strong quantitative skills; (3) a willingness to learn new techniques and skills while interacting with an interdisciplinary team, including resource managers; and (4) strong writing and communication skills.
