Civic Ventures’ Encore Careers Campaign

Posted: March 12, 2012

Encore.org is for people interested in encore careers – jobs that combine personal meaning, continued income and social impact. The site is published by Civic Ventures, a nonprofit think tank on boomers, work and social purpose. While Encore.org is not a job placement service, it provides free, comprehensive information that helps people transition to jobs in the nonprofit world and the public sector.

Here is a letter of introduction I just received from Michele Melendez, Encore.org editor:

Dear friend,
If you’re one of the 31 million people ages 44 to 70 who would like to find an encore career combining purpose, passion and a paycheck, Encore.org can help. Encore.org isn’t a job matching service, but we have compiled and recently updated a hefty list of websites and resources that we hope will help you get started.
Take a look: www.encore.org/work/joblistings. Here’s what you’ll find:

  • Ten links to websites that list a wide range of job openings.
  • Links to job boards that focus on health care, nonprofit, green, education and government jobs. (Look for these on the right side of the page.)
  • Tips on using LinkedIn and other social media sites to find an en-core career.
  • A podcast with careers expert Marci Alboher on how to search for work with meaning.

I hope you’ll visit today and forward this email to others who have told you they’d like to have an encore career for the greater good but just don’t know where to start.
Please let me know what you find helpful – and what you’d like to see more of on the job listings page. We’re working to make Encore.org your first stop on what we hope will be a fulfilling and important journey.

Take care,
Michele Melendez, Editor
